Wednesday Workout – Slide Board Training

February 10, 2010 by CJ · Leave a Comment

Last night on The Biggest Loser one of the challenges was a workout using a slide board – the contestants had to glide back and forth and log 500 repetitions – the first one there won immunity for the evening.

Slideboards are a great way to activate a wide range of muscles in a unique and no-impact way. Traditionally you think of the lateral motion used by ice skaters and hockey players but as you can see in the video below, slideboards are great for doing regular lunges forward and back, side lunges and the lateral slides.

Slide board workouts are very efficient as they engage large muscle groups and your core at the same time – you can burn around 225 calories in a single 20 minute workout.

If you don’t want to actually get a full slide board system you can purchase Valslides and use them on regular carpeted surfaces as well as tile or linoleum. Valslides come in a travel bag making them perfect for workouts anywhere and when you are limited on space – even in your hotel room.

Both slide board training and its more portable option, the Valslide, are excellent tools for mixing up your workouts and developing long, lean muscles.

Adidas Plus Size Jackets

As I have said before, Adidas is one of my favorite brands. Everything they make looks sharp – whether you are going to the gym, the grocery store, or the game. When I found out that they made a line of workout wear in plus sizes I immediately went looking for a lightweight jacket I could wear to golf in, use for my walks or just put on for a little extra warmth on cool days. You can find the line of Adidas Womens Plus Size activewear at Dick’s Sporting Goods and a few other retailers. Below are the three styles that are currently available at Dick’s online.

Wednesday Workout – Crab Walk with Resistance Bands

February 3, 2010 by CJ · Leave a Comment

Resistance bands are a great way to increase strength, make your exercises more efficient and mix up your normal routine. Today’s Wednesday Workout exercise is the Crab Walk using an O-shaped resistance band.

It is simple enough to do – put the resistance band around your ankles, squat as far as you can comfortably and take lateral steps to the right then come back stepping to the left. Depending on the amount of space you have, you can either take multiple steps one way and then the same number back, or if you have a small space to work in,  take one step right then one step left and repeat.

The crab walk with resistance bands targets the quads and the glutes. Its not hard to do, just challenging to do a lot of. For more free workout videos and exercise ideas, visit Workoutz.com.
