Swimming laps is one of the best forms of exercise ever – there is absolutely no strain on the joints, it is an all over body workout and other than a really comfortable swimsuit, you really don’t need much equipment to get started.
If you want to add some variety and challenge to your swim workout I recommend adding laps using just your legs by using a kickboard or challenge your arms by keeping a Pull Buoy between your legs to eliminate the kick. Alternate laps of freestyle and breaststroke with laps of kick only and pull only. Do some of your laps as sprints and some in longer groups for more aerobic benefit.
