greatest satisfaction comes from the motivation within you

How was your week? Mine was pretty fantastic – at least in the work out department. I ran Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and I walked on Wednesday for a total of about 12 miles for the week. But more important  than the miles, I proved to myself something I have known for a long time – YOU have to want it for YOU.

Tuesday’s run was just in the neighborhood and I wanted to prove to myself I could run 3.1 miles with out stopping since I have to do it in a few weeks at the 5K race. I asked my son to join me – just to make sure I didn’t wimp out and walk or something. He rode his bike along side me, filled me in on his day and cheered me on. I did all 3.1 miles.

Fast forward to Sunday. I wanted to run that 3.1 miles again and again, asked my son to keep me company. In true teenage form, he whined about being in the middle of something then said “Mom, I am not going to be with you on race day – I will be way out in front of you – so you need to just do it by yourself.” Gee thanks, I thought. Actually, I was pretty ticked off. I started my run mad at the world, but not even a mile into it, I came to the realization that I am doing this for me and the only motivation I need is me. It felt so good to come inside and say, I did it. I ran the whole way. All run. All me. All good.

With the 5K just two weeks away now, its all about confidence and knowing I can do it. Here’s my plan:

  • Monday – stretching day, 3x 30 second planks, 15 hamstring curls on each leg, 2x 15 bicep curls with kettlebells
  • Tuesday – 3 mile run
  • Wednesday – hopefully golf day
  • Thursday – 3 mile run
  • Friday – stretching day, 3x 30 second planks, 15 hamstring curls on each leg, 2x 15 bicep curls with kettlebells
  • Saturday – 3 mile run
  • Sunday – driving range to hit some golf balls with the kids

What’s on your plan this week? Better yet, what motivates you?
